My name is Rod Haugh. I owned Global Logistics Services Inc.
I founded Homeland Logistics Services Inc.
The HLSI story began in the Fall of 2012 meetings with my neighbor, a former U.S. Navy Counter Terrorism Analyst and terminally disabled veteran. Like many good friends, our discussions covered a myriad of topics…home, family, politics, world events, our own recent health issues. On this particular fall day, our conversation revolved around the September 11th attacked on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, killing the U.S. Ambassador and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer along with a second assault killing two Private Military Contractors.
We talked about the wounded Special Forces men and women who put their lives on the line for US citizens at home and abroad. My friend spoke about his experience with Special Operators and that their return to civilian life is challenging due to limited employment opportunities. Many of these men and women were not receiving the help they so badly needed after deployment to reestablish their lives back home. Most evident today by recent issues with the Veterans Administration debacles.
I remembered the Vietnam Veterans in the late 60’s and 70’s knowing their returning experiences were most challenging. The question was: how can we help these veterans? Knowing full well a number of these individuals return to harm’s way as private military contractors or in humanitarian support of those terrorized, some returning with loss of a limb or worse.
My plans were to retire Global Logistics Services Inc. in 2013. I got that "second wind" Homeland Logistics Services Inc..
I moved forward with an action plan that established our company as one of the first Illinois Benefit Corporations, with the purpose to hire returning Veterans. I hired three Vietnam Era veterans; President, Controller and Director of Mexico Operations. To help create a new company. Industry friends and associates help provided support and suggestions. We needed to do more!!
In 2014 Homeland Global Freedom Foundation Inc. was formed as a not for profit to assist returning veterans the opportunity for employment in the private sector Logistics Industries.
This is Homeland Logistics Services. Committed to service, over watch, responsibility, integrity, for our clients and doing whatever we can to repay our veterans who gave so much for our country…to give them, "a second wind".
Homeland Logistics Services is our second wind and our mission will be to give former combatants of the United States employment opportunities to help them begin a second career in the logistics field. We will seek to employ returning veterans and help train them to become certified logistics and supply chain professionals.
Our goal is to promote financial security, personal growth, and an additional source of accomplishment during veterans’ rehabilitation and return to civilian life.
"Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they've got a second. Give your dreams all you've got and you'll be amazed at the energy that comes out of you."
William James, 1842-1910, Psychologist and Author
